Grandmother Shirley’s Q & A With God

If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is ‘thank you,’ it will be enough.”

–   Meister Eckhart

The Holy One that lives within us and everywhere present is always, always, waiting/available/ready to offer wisdom, comfort, guidance, and love whenever we ask.  We just have to remember to ask!

Grandmother Shirley — my amazing mom — kept a journaling practice for most of her adult life. Over time, her journal evolved into what she called her Q & A with God.

She would begin each entry like this:

Q) Here is my question. What say you, Holy Spirit?

A) Then she would write…letting the words flow through her, imagining herself as a conduit for divine response.

Following her delightful example, I sat down this morning with my own journal and asked:

“What message do you have for the November blog?”

I’m so happy I asked. 🥰 Here’s what came through:

It’s a new day — another chance to be alive, to practice non-resistance, and to align with the creative spark pulsing within you. Today offers another opportunity to follow your creative impulses into stillness or inspired action. What a gift it is to awaken yet again!

No matter how high or low you feel in a moment, no matter the warm sunshine or the dark, dreary rain — all of it is reason to celebrate existence. As we move through this harvest season with Thanksgiving on the horizon, gratitude becomes the only fitting response.

Will you color your day with gratitude? Will you light your actions with loving appreciation for all of it — even the parts that are difficult to see, to know, or to feel?

Creation is an opportunity LIFE has to move through and beyond itself, for the soul’s journey to continue on Earth. Your time here — the “you” you believe yourself to be — is like weather: a passing influence, a temporary condition.

Drop into feeling the utter poignancy of being a divine figment of imagination…and what a divine figment you are!

Relish in this exquisite play of light and shadow — the way distortion creates both contrast and rainbow. Fall to your spirit-knees and give thanks.

Welcome all your emotions to move through the body — this most essential temple — where you can worship the Divine spark in every form, every transition, every breath. Beauty, in its rawest form, takes the mind to stillness and the heart to tears. Give thanks for every second, every sensation, every soul lesson, every face of love that love takes. Seed the world with your compassionate brightness — a radiant offering to the infinite mystery.

What message might you receive if you took a few minutes each day to ask the question “What say You?”, and let the words flow from the Divine?

In love and gratitude,
